How it started

My passion for writing started at the age of 7 when I would write short stories about unicorns and poems about my cat. However, it wasn’t until college that I decided to make a career out of it.

After graduating from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, I started a diverse writing career that involved working for a dot-com, a non-profit, a credit union, a newspaper group, a regional hospital system, and a B2B marketing agency with clients in the building products and healthcare industries.

How it’s going

In June 2020, I quit my full-time job writing for healthcare clients at a small agency to go freelance. While freelancing, I wrote website and email copy for healthcare companies and agencies. One of those agencies, the award-winning healthcare creative agency AREA 23, lured me back into the 9-5 life by offering me a full-time position with perks that were hard to refuse. (Coworkers! Virtual happy hours! Insurance!) I now work for them as a Group Copy Supervisor developing copy and ideas for a rare disease drug.

Passions (other than writing)

• Yoga and meditation: I’ve been practicing for over 20 years both at home and in studios. Since 2018, I’ve been going to annual yoga retreats at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health—my home away from home.

• Jane Austen: I got hooked on the author in high school and have been smitten with Mr. Darcy ever since. I’m currently a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America.

• Nature: There’s nothing better for the soul than hiking in the woods, kayaking on a lake, or watching wildlife. My favorite outdoor places include Green Lakes State Park in Central NY, Taughannock Falls near Ithaca, NY, and Yokun Ridge in Western MA.
